Who, or what was your most important teacher?
Jean Gardner Nicholson, who taught me to read by phonetics when it was still a relatively new idea and who presented me Pippi Longstocking, the model of my adult life.
What was your most important lesson?
I have never heard once, my father complain about work, go to work, have to go to work or have to face something at work. He taught me that work could be a significant, interesting and important part of life so as not to be feared or hated – and that it was up to me to do this.
What do you think will have a lasting impact?
I think the impact of the AI will go beyond the media threw although we have only scratched the surface of what it will do.
In your opinion, what technology has the greatest influence on how we learn now?
YouTube has taught people that they can identify their own learning needs, choose the best way to learn something for themselves, that “learning” is really often “solving a problem”, and that learning experiences are better when ready, easily located, when needed.
What is the coolest gadget / technology / tool that you’ve seen lately?
Synthesia’s customizable video models: Create a “welcome” video for new hires and fill it out via a spreadsheet to personalize the name, role, office setting, location, etc.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
“Nana Bubbles: Life in the front row.”
What was your first thought of our global theme, “brace for transformation: the courage to redefine learning”?
That we will hear a lot of discussions on AI, but unlike the past promises of “transformation”, that is perhaps it.
Do you have a final message for the OEB community?
As practitioners faced by technology constantly evolving and other changes, it is crucial to remember: our work consists in considering how they can learn That, not how we can teach he.
