If you have trouble studying for more than 30 minutes at an hour, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. Study for long periods requires a practice, as well as developing muscles at the gymnasium. You should gradually train your brain so that it can concentrate for long periods.
The key is to be patient with yourself. It takes time to improve concentration, and you should not expect to sit down suddenly for hours without distracting yourself. Everyone’s ability to focus is different, so the process will vary from person to person. However, some practical strategies can help you increase your study time.
Here are some methods that worked for me:
1. Read as much as you can before you distract yourself
Try to push your limit by reading as much as possible before losing focus. Then take a short break – 5 to 20 minutes. However, it is important not to extend your break beyond 20 minutes, because you could lose momentum.
After the break, go back to study. Over time, your brain will adapt and you can concentrate for longer periods without forcing yourself.
2. Study with someone who is also motivated
Having a study partner can help you stay focused. This could be a classmate, a friend or even someone online who has the same goal of improving his study habits.
When you study with someone, you create responsibility – you are less likely to distract yourself when someone works by your side. In addition, discussing what you have learned with your study partner can improve your understanding of the equipment.
3. Go to a public library or a silent study space
Study at home can be distracting, especially if you have access to your phone, bed or other distractions. Instead, try to study in a public library, a coffee or any quiet space where other people also work.
Being surrounded by people who focus on their tasks can motivate you to stay longer. You might feel embarrassed to leave after only 30 minutes, which will encourage you to push you beyond your usual limit.
4. Study right after alarm clock
Your mind is the coolest in the morning, and there is less distractions. If you have trouble studying early, don’t start immediately after waking up. Instead:
Wash your face to refresh yourself.
Drink water to wake you up completely.
Some people have even put water in their ears to shock their awake system!
Once you feel awake, sit down and start studying.
By applying these techniques, you will gradually strengthen your ability to study for longer hours without feeling exhausted!
